Part 2 of Steven's Life

Steven works in construction for a basement company and that also means he is outside everyday they work no matter what the weather is. It could be hot and humid or it could be raining or snowing and they are out their working in it. If you are wondering how they form a basement I can tell you . Here is a detail description on how his day goes he gets up at 6:30 a.m. and has to be at work by 7:30 am then they have to get the trucks ready by loading all the materials they are going to need. They arrive at the job site around 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. and then they unload everything off the trucks into a nine foot hole.Then they start to form the walls of the basement by lining the panels up. that whole process takes any where from 3 to 6 hours long .Then they have to square everything up and that takes about a hour or two.And that is good timing if they have all the guys to work on it but most of the time they only have 5 to 6 guys working so it ends up taking all night . There really should be a maximum of 11 guys doing the job at once so no one will get injured but the boss always splits them up then they have double the work to do.Next they have to pour concrete between the panels with a pump truck and that takes another 1 to 2 hours depending if everything goes o.k. Sometimes he will get home between 8 to 11 at night and that usual means they had to pour in the dark and that is very dangerous. Then the next day they have to go back to the job site and take the panels off the concrete walls. Then they have to haul the heavy panels back to the baskets.then go to the next job site and do it again. Depending on the job site they might even have to carry the supplies up a hill and throw the mud to where the trucks are. But the company he works for dose not care all they care about is that all mighty dollar. His boss dose not even care if they see thier families. The company dose not offer them health insurance,sick pay,Holiday pay,vacation pay,or a 401k retirement plan . Sometimes the boss even gets a bonus for getting the job done early and he dose not even offer any of that to the employees. He even gets upset if they ask for a day off. But the one thing the company dose offer are long hours and dangerous work conditions how nice of them. Don't get me wrong the job dose pay the bills and puts food on the table and I'm thankful for that but sometimes I feel safety needs to come first.Steven has tryed to look for other jobs but it's a tough market out there and as we all know it's not easy trying to start over at a new job.
